What is the point of having financial prosperity but being confined to a hospital bed? What is the point of relational joy if sickness keeps interrupting your relationships? What is the point of spiritual fire if your physical body is constantly weak?
Your body matters. Your health matters.
God has given you a physical body through which you live, serve, work, love, and fulfil His purpose on the earth. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and taking care of it is part of good stewardship.
Here are five keys that can help you walk in divine health.
- Eat Healthy
What you put into your body matters.
Food is a gift from God, but we must learn to master our appetites rather than become mastered by them. Many people would never consider themselves addicted to anything, yet they struggle to control their eating.
You don’t have to completely deprive yourself of the foods you enjoy. Instead, develop wisdom and discipline around what you eat, how much you eat, and when you eat.
Focus on increasing protein, fruits and vegetables, while reducing sugar, maida and ultra-processed foods. Learn portion control and choose eating habits that are realistic and sustainable.
One simple habit is to eat dinner early—ideally by 7 PM, or 8 PM at the latest.
The goal isn’t to live under condemnation about food. The goal is to honour God by taking care of the body He has given you.
And remember, wisdom includes medical wisdom. Get the appropriate tests and seek professional advice when necessary.
- Exercise Your Body
The Bible says, “Physical training is good” (1 Timothy 4:8, NLT).
We live in a generation where technology has made almost everything convenient—and that convenience has made many of us inactive.
You don’t necessarily need an elaborate workout routine. Walk, jog, do push-ups and squats, or incorporate strength training into your routine. Even 15 minutes of intentional movement every day is a great place to start.
Exercise isn’t just about looking good. It is about having the strength and energy to live well, serve God and enjoy the life He has given you.
You should be strong enough to play with your grandchildren!
- Partake in Communion
Communion is more than a religious ritual. It reminds us of the finished work of Jesus and everything He accomplished for us through His death and resurrection.
Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 11:30 about weakness and sickness in the context of how the Corinthian believers were sick because they did not discern the Lord’s body. In Acts 2:46, the early believers regularly broke bread together in their homes.
Make Communion a meaningful and consistent part of your spiritual life. As you partake, remember Jesus, His sacrifice, His body that was broken for us, and the life we have received through Him.
Receive healing as you partake.
- Bless Your Body
Your words matter.
In Mark 11, Jesus spoke to a fig tree, and His words had an effect. Scripture repeatedly shows us the importance of speaking in agreement with God.
Be careful about constantly speaking sickness over yourself:
“I’m always sick.”
“I’m a heart patient.”
“I’m diabetic.”
“My body is weak.”
Instead, learn to speak life and the promises of God over your body.
If you have developed a pattern of speaking negatively about your health, repent and begin speaking differently.
Bless your body. Speak life. Speak the Word.
- Grow in the Supernatural
God must be your ultimate source of health.
That doesn’t mean rejecting doctors, medical treatment or medicine. There is no need to feel guilty about seeking medical help. We can use medical wisdom while continuing to grow in faith.
But don’t allow sickness to become your identity.
When you experience a symptom, learn to respond with faith. Pray. Speak the Word. Stand on God’s promises. As your faith grows, begin praying for others who are sick and become someone who carries life wherever you go.
Proverbs 4:20–22 gives us a powerful pattern: give attention to God’s Word, keep it before your eyes, and allow it to become “life” and “health” to you.
Don’t wait for a health crisis before you start taking care of your body.
Be strong. Be healthy. Live long. And use your body to fulfil everything God has called you to do.
