What is the GOSPEL?

What is the GOSPEL?

Many of us have misunderstood what the Gospel truly is. We often reduce it to a mere message we preach to get people saved and secure their place in heaven. But the Gospel runs far deeper. Think about this: the apostles gave their very lives for the Gospel. They considered the Gospel more precious than their own existence. So, what exactly is this Gospel that captivated them so completely?

I’ve broken down the GOSPEL into six transformative points:

G – God is a Family

God is not a solitary being sitting alone in heaven with needs or deficiencies. God is a family – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three Persons live in perfect unity while remaining distinct individuals. God isn’t an abstract concept we struggle to grasp, nor is He an organisation or institution. God is a family of three Persons in a perfect, harmonious relationship with one another.

O – Other-Centred God

The Trinity reveals a God who is completely other-centred and overflowing with selfless love. There exists no ego, competition, or self-interest among the Father, Son, and the Spirit. The Father delights in the Son, the Son honours the Spirit, and the Spirit glorifies both. They embody perfect love without a trace of jealousy or insecurity toward one another. Their relationship shows us what pure, selfless love truly looks like.

S – Sin is a Relational Issue

In this understanding of the Gospel, sin isn’t primarily about breaking moral codes or laws – it’s fundamentally a relational problem. Sin represents a broken narrative that manifests as dysfunction in our lives. Because sin is relational at its core, it cannot be healed through punishment. Instead, it’s like a sickness that can only be healed through the relational love that flows from the Triune God. This shifts our understanding from sin as merely “doing bad things” to sin as “our disconnection from the Trinity’s love.”

P – Power of God

The Gospel isn’t just information – it’s the very power of God made available to us who believe. This power enables us to break free from living as victims through blame or shame. The divine power works in us to overcome every form of weakness, disease, addiction, and trauma – even death itself. When we truly embrace the Gospel, we tap into a supernatural strength that transforms our reality from the inside out.

E – Exchanging Narratives

The Gospel invites us into a vital exchange of narratives. We’re called to release our limited perspectives and interpretations of our experiences, allowing God’s truth to reshape our understanding. His perspective becomes our final narrative. This isn’t just changing our minds – it’s allowing a complete renovation of how we see ourselves, others, and every situation we face. We trade our stories for His story.

L – Living in Awareness

Finally, the Gospel calls us to live in continuous awareness of what Jesus accomplished and what He is presently revealing about Himself, about us, about our circumstances, and others. This isn’t a one-time acknowledgement but an ongoing practice of dwelling in, meditating on, and remaining in this awareness. As we abide in His love, we experience the overflow of abundant Zoe life – God’s own quality of life flowing through our everyday existence.

This is the GOSPEL – not just a message for conversion, but the foundation for an entirely new way of being. I encourage you to take this Gospel seriously, allowing it to transform every aspect of your life and relationships.
