8 Signs You Might Be Addicted to Your Phone

8 Signs You Might Be Addicted to Your Phone

One of the biggest contributors to depression and anxiety among young people today is the endless time spent on mobile phones—scrolling through reels, playing games, and comparing their lives to the “highlight reels” of others.

When our minds are constantly overstimulated by screens, something happens: creativity fades, relationships weaken, and we slowly lose the joy of real life.

So how do you know if you might be struggling with mobile addiction? Here are 8 warning signs to check for yourself:

1. You check your phone the moment you wake up

  • Before you even stretch, pray, or greet your family—you’re already on your phone.

2. Endless scrolling

  • You can’t stop scrolling reels. Setting screen limits doesn’t work because you keep bypassing them.

3. Feedback from others

  • Your family or friends often tell you, “You’re always on the phone,” but instead of admitting it, you get defensive.

4. Losing peace and joy

  • You compare your life with others online and constantly check your posts to see how many likes, comments, or views you’ve received.

5. Spiritual things feel boring

  • Prayer, Bible study, or even listening to a sermon feels exhausting compared to the excitement of social media.

6. Late-night scrolling

  • You spend hours on your phone before bed, sacrificing sleep for endless reels.

7. Struggling to socialize

  • When you’re with people, you still end up on your phone. At restaurants, at family gatherings, or even during conversations—you retreat into your screen instead of being present.

8. You even take your phone to the toilet

  • No explanation needed—if you can’t even take a short break without your device, that’s a sign.
