5 keys to experiencing real and genuine relationships

Are you longing for more genuine and meaningful connections in your life? Do you ever wonder how to identify truly connected relationships?

These five keys will help you build the connections that you are longing for

1. Story – Do the people in your life truly know your story? This isn’t just about the highlight reel but also the “bad ones and the ugly ones”. True connection happens when someone knows and accepts all parts of you. If they only appreciate a “good version” of you, the connection will feel superficial.

2. Updated – Are the people in your life currently updated with what’s happening with you? Do they know your present struggles, dreams, and aspirations, or are they stuck in the past, knowing only what happened years ago? Genuine connection involves staying informed and involved in each other’s present realities.

3. Resolving Conflict – How do you and the other person handle disagreements? Are you able to resolve conflict constructively, or do you tend to bury issues and move on without addressing them? Strong connections are marked by the ability to work through conflict, which ultimately draws you towards a “deeper connection”.

4. Feedback – Can you be honest and say “no” in the relationship? Is the other person accepting of your boundaries? Furthermore, are you able to give and receive feedback openly? This includes sharing how you are experiencing the relationship and asking the other person about their experience. Feedback is crucial for building deep connections and distinguishing between a “contractual relationship” and a “covenantal relationship”.

5. Intentional – Are you actively and regularly investing in the relationship? This means going beyond just saying, “Let’s catch up” and actually setting dates for calls, meetings, or shared meals – whether it’s monthly or weekly. Being intentional about connecting with those “real people that that God wants you to be connected with” is vital.

Finding your “people” is key to discovering your purpose.
